Soft Tissue Mobilisation

Soft Tissue mobilisations are manual techniques performed to muscle and connective tissue with the aim of improving blood flow, facilitating healing and restoring normal mobility. This range of techniques includes massage, Trigger point release and Myofascial release.

Treatment Image

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body. It is thought that Acupuncture stimulates the release of chemicals known as endorphins from the hypothalamus which results in a pain-relieving effect.

Acupuncture works well for many people and there are rarely any side effects. Many people feel an immediate effect from Acupuncture treatment, but it is always recommended that it is used at least 3 times as the beneficial effects are said to be cumulative.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy utilises high-frequency sound waves to cause a vibratory effect within the soft tissues. This is proposed to have a positive impact on the soft tissue healing process, although the mechanism of action is still not fully understood. Ultrasound has been used as a treatment modality for sports injuries by therapists for over 50 years.

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)

The main function of TENS is to provide relief from pain. It involves the use of a small, battery-powered unit and 4 adhesive electrodes which are placed over the area of pain. The TENS machine provides a superficial electrical impulse which is thought to interrupt pain pathways and stimulate a release of endorphins.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy involves the provision of a tailored exercise programme aiming to address restricted joint mobility as well as muscle imbalance.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is a 100% cotton, hypoallergenic, latex free, non-restrictive, elastic adhesive tape, designed to have the same amount of stretch as human skin. The application of Kinesiology tape has been shown to reduce pain, assist lymphatic drainage and decrease the local inflammatory response to soft tissue injury. It is often used by professional sports people to both prevent injury and facilitate a return to training during recovery.

Sports Massage

The prime purpose of sports massage is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the soft tissues during any type of physical activity. A wide variety of massage techniques are employed in order to relieve tension, promote healing and help to restore normal movement and function.
